Creating Solutions for Worker's Compensation and Disability Claims
We specialize in creating vocational solutions that return injured employees to work. Whether we are helping an employee regain his or her previous position, or helping the employee find a new vocational focus, our philosophy remains the same: We find solutions that meet the needs of the injured worker, the employer and the insurer.
Our Vocational Evaluation is a process by which a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor meets with an individual to gather information in order to evaluate that person’s vocational potential. Through a combination of interview, vocational testing, situational assessment, medical records review, functional capabilities determination, and resource survey, the counselor can guide the individual toward or away from specific jobs, fields of interest or ability, vocational training, courses of study or placement.
Job Analysis is a process of identifying and determining in detail the particular job duties and requirements, to include determining the required functional capabilities, and the relative importance of these duties for a given job.
An important concept of Job Analysis is that the analysis is conducted of the Job, not the person. While Job Analysis data may be collected from incumbents through interviews or questionnaires, the product of the analysis is a description or specifications of the job, not a description of the person.
Vocational counselors help claim managers decide whether an injured worker can return to their old job. If they are unable to return to their old job, they can assist in helping eligible workers develop rehabilitation plans aimed at helping them return to the workforce.
They work with you, your doctor and your employer to see if your old job can be temporarily or permanently changed to meet your needs. If not, they investigate other job options with your employer. If that’s not possible, the vocational counselor will assess your skills for a new job.
The Transferable Skills Analysis (TSA) consists of compiling occupations from the U.S. Department of Labor's Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) to represent a person's work history, and analyzing the work activities (Work Fields) a person has performed in the previous jobs, along with the objects upon which the work activities were performed. This data is then used to identify a set of occupations that a worker should be able to perform. If the worker has been injured or otherwise disabled, their residual functional capacities can also be considered by adjusting the worker traits associated with their DOT work history.
A Labor Market Survey is one way for a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor to gain insight into the local labor market. These surveys help to identify current jobs that are available, the hiring requirements, wages and benefits, and functional capabilities required of each job. There is a distinction between a labor market survey and an employer/informational interview. The focus of a labor market survey is to gather information on an occupation in order to choose a career. The focus of an employer/informational interview helps to identify employers hiring people in a specific occupation.
